Our Development Process
With our equines as learning partners, we help you clarify your goals, explore new possibilities, and create a meaningful development plan to move you forward.
Equine-assisted professional development is a ground-based experience that requires no prior horse experience and does not involve riding. All exercises will take place with the safety of the horse, handler, and participant in mind at all times.
Our consultants are experienced horse professionals who are insured and trained in equine assisted learning and herd management. We are also skilled facilitators, trainers, and leadership cultivators.
Professional Development Sessions
Four one-on-one 60-minute sessions to identify your professional goals.Session 1: Explore and discover your goals

Includes an initial assessment and post-reflection assessment
Conclude your sessions with a professional development reflection and plan

Refinement & Connection
A follow-up 45-minute session to refine your skills or to experience connection with your chosen equine partner.Includes a consultation session with Maitland Consulting to further refine and develop your professional goals

Do I need experience with horses?

Not at all! Groundwork is designed for participants with a wide range of comfort levels and experience. We facilitate and design the sessions to be approachable for beginners.
Will I be riding a horse?

No, all activities will take place on the ground (hence the name — groundwork!). The focus is on observation, interaction, communication, and reflection, rather than riding or horsemanship skills.
What actually happens during a session?

Sessions typically include an introduction to the learning objectives, facilitated activities involving horses, opportunities for observation, guided reflection with your facilitator. Your facilitator will help translate your experience to communication, leadership, teamwork, or other professional situations.
Is this therapy?

No. Groundwork is a professional development program, not a therapeutic service. Sessions focus on workplace-relevant skills
